As part of their final-year film project, a group of final-year Film Production students at the University of Gloucestershire had the opportunity to shoot part of their romantic comedy, Haunted Romantics, at the stunning Wells Cathedral Chapter House staircase.
The film follows Richard, a romantically awkward man grappling with love, fantasy, and self-doubt until a talkative Regency ghost forces him to confront his fear of rejection.
Haunted Romantics is the result of months of hard work and collaboration. Director, Jack Fellows, is passionate about storytelling, having recently won an RTS award for Comedy and Entertainment.
Regency ghost actor, David Hoskin, a Mumbai Fringe Festival winner, was fundamental in bringing this scene to life, with his performance really adding depth and energy to the character.
The students said:
“The location was the perfect backdrop for our story, offering a unique blend of history and atmosphere that we couldn’t have replicated elsewhere.
“Filming in such a historic location really helped ground our story and added an extra layer of depth, especially with the scene being set in the 1800s.
“A huge thank you to Matthew and the team at Wells Cathedral for their amazing support throughout the process. They were incredibly welcoming and flexible, working with us to accommodate our tight student budget to ensure everything went smoothly. Their help made all the difference in bringing our vision to life.
“Haunted Romantics has been a true passion project, and we’re excited to share it with everyone. We hope it captures not only the charm of Wells Cathedral but also the hard work and dedication of our entire team.”
